Whoosh!

Special thanks to my girlfriend, Marie-Pierre Nadeau for this one.

Here is the scenario:  Marie asked me to play a song I wrote about my childhood, The Land Is Beautiful.  It is about all the most beautiful things I remember from the first 7 years of my life that connect to the natural world and place where we lived.  It is a celebration of my connection with nature and the good fortune I had to live in such a wonderful place.

So why when I sang the song for her why did tears come to my eyes?  I tried to explain it. Even though the song is a list of wonderful things, my breath was caught and tears came. If there are tears, it must be sadness, I thought.   “Maybe it is the sadness of no longer being a child, having to grow up and move on?” I said.  “Maybe we should have another word for it," she mused

It took me a few minutes before I started to understand.  “Yes!” “I don’t really feel sad, it is just in that moment of singing, this strong feeling flows into me with a whoosh and tears come to my eyes.  It is not heavy or lingering.  It is alive, energetic and moving.  It is the power of the feeling that brings the tears.”

Do you have a certain song that creates a WHOOSH for you?  Or a certain place, or photo? How do you interpret it when it happens?
