Rivers and Dams
This morning I am enjoying the Winooski River. It is cold and sunny outside and the river is full, expressing itself. It is flowing, strong and fast. The waters are abundant.
The dam here is being repaired and the main section has been removed. The river is more free to flow, and with this week’s rain there is a lot of water!
We build dams in our lives. There is nothing wrong or immoral about structure, yet over time it can become too much; too limiting; too controlling; too harsh. We may simply want things to be more organized, or we may want to hold it all together during a difficult time, or we may need it to protect ourselves…so we build a dam.
We might settle into the comfort of how well it holds. We might not notice that the world around us is changing, that we are changing, because the dam is rigid.
When your body hurts enough, feels broken enough, gets sick enough, will it get your attention?
It might be time to repair the dam, or take it down all together. It might be time to let life flow a little more freely, and it might be time to let it gush!
Your body is trying to tell you, and even if you have gone years without listening, you can still turn your attention and hear the message. It can take time, but it’s never too late to start.
Listen within.
Surrender to the wisdom of the body.
Allow your brilliant mind to humbly sit down for a few moments.
Your body already knows what it needs, but be patient with yourself. Let time be your ally as you allow your body to speak and allow yourself to hear. Enjoy the slow crescendo of your life flowing more freely as you dissolve or change the dam that has been there so long.
